<100 Word Single Review: The Kelly Song by Viki Mealings and Peter O’Shea

‘The Kelly Song’ by violinist Peter O’Shea and vocalist Viki Mealings is an incredibly catchy tale of Australia’s most famous bushranger Ned Kelly and The Kelly Gang. Mealings’ vocals are sweet and melodic, and the skilful violin by O’Shea adds a traditional feel to the music, and aural bite to the lyrics. The inflections in Mealings’ voice make for an expressive performance that goes well with the musical arrangement and underlies the message of the lyrics. The story told within the lyrics is familiar, yet the lyrics themselves are original ‘you say that I’m cold-blooded; I swear I will get justice’.
